Date: 29/09/07 My BlackBerry 8800. This is usually the first thing I look at on any given day, because I use this device as my alarm clock.

Today is a Friday. On Fridays, I try to get up early to go out an shoot with a small group of Santa Barbara photographers. We try to get together every Friday, although we don't all make it each week. It is great to get together with these guys, and that makes up for having to get up so early to meet up before work. I am not a "morning person".
Date: 29/09/07 My soap dish and wedding band. I always take my wedding band off when I go in the shower. It looks like it could fit through the slots in the metal grate that covers the drain. I don't think it is likely to fall off my finger in the shower and then slip down the drain, but in any case, that is the reason why I take it off and leave it by the sink.

I actually like this image as a stand-alone shot, and might even post it on my photoblog at some point. People that are familiar with my photography know that I like to photograph ordinary things in interesting ways, and this is an example of that. I never paid attention to this subject (which I see nearly every day) before, but I did today as a result of participating in the My Day In Photos project.
Date: 29/09/07 My friend Greg Lawler (author of the excellent Zinkwazi photoblog) on the bluffs near Devereaux Point in Goleta, California. Greg and I decided to go out here to shoot this morning. Unfortunately, at least in my case, there wasn't really anything interesting to shoot. I tried a few long exposure shots of waves, rocks, etc. using Greg's 10-stop neutral density filter, but they were just like every other long exposure beach shot I have ever seen. Nothing really interesting. In any case, it was good to see Greg.

Behind Greg, you can see the fog. We have fog here in Santa Barbara pretty much every morning from early May through the end of July. Frequently, it does not burn off until 4:00 PM. We call it the "June Gloom".
Date: 29/09/07 Coffee at Starbucks. I go to Starbucks at least twice a day. I don't get a full eight hours of sleep most nights as a result of a) my 3.5 year old boy waking me up, b) staying up late working on photographs etc., or c) both "a" and "b". So the caffeine helps me to be productive at my real job. Fortunately, Starbucks is right across the street from my office.
Date: 29/09/07 My office. I run a small company, but work alone in this space. My partners are in Los Angeles and I deal with them via E-mail and phone most of the time. Same for all of the brokers, architects, civil engineers, and other consultants that I work with each day. I really prefer working in an environment where there are other people, but it hasn't made sense to hire additional staff yet. At least my office is in a great place: on State Street right in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. It has fantastic natural light, and is a nice place to spend the day.
Date: 29/09/07 My workstation. This is where I spend most of my time on weekdays. One of the many good things about my job is that I go out of the office a lot to meet with members of my project teams, look at new potential property acquisitions, or visit the sites of my current projects. So I am not stuck here 100% of the time.
Date: 29/09/07 Lunch. This linguine with grilled chicken, cilantro, and red onions was delicious.
Date: 29/09/07 The Balboa Building, where I work. I took this shot on my way back from lunch. The fog had mostly burned off by now, so this looks a lot better than if I shot it on the way in to work in the morning.
Date: 29/09/07 This is the "Dobro Guitar Guy". We have an unbelievably pleasant climate here in Santa Barbara, so, like many other structures in town, my office does not have air-conditioning. I leave my window open all day as a result. This guy sits down there on State Street outside my open window, and plays the same four songs all day, starting around 9:30 in the morning and continuing until I leave work around 6:30 in the evening. The four song repertoire is OK if you are a pedestrian walking by and listening to it for 30 seconds. Listening to this rotation for nine hours, every day, is another story.
Date: 29/09/07 This is a 24 lot subdivision I am working on in Santa Clarita, California. I was working on it this afternoon.
Date: 29/09/07 The view out of my office window late in the afternoon.
Date: 29/09/07 My boys. My 8.5 year old stepson Spencer is in the back (in focus), and the blurry little one in front is my 3.5 year old son Tristan. My wife called me late in the day and we decided to meet at a shopping center near our house for dinner. They were all waiting for me at a bookstore next door to the restaurant that we were going to for dinner.
Date: 29/09/07 My son Tristan. The green hair "highlights" are a result of his friends spilling bath crayon dye on him.
Date: 29/09/07 My lovely wife Nichol.
Date: 29/09/07 My stepson Spencer, later at dinner.
Date: 29/09/07 Feeding Emma, our yellow Labrador Retriever, after we got home from dinner. She is a great dog. We adopted her from a breeder last fall. Good breeders like to retire their females after two or three litters of pups. Emma has had three litters of puppies, and their owners send photos of the pups to the breeder all the time, and she forwards these to us.
Date: 29/09/07 Nichol checks her E-mail. A regular sight in our home at night. She is probably looking to see if she has gotten any new donations for her current Team In Training fundraising effort. She is running a marathon on June 3rd in San Diego, and she raised nearly $5,000.00 US for cancer research for this. She signed up again for another marathon this fall, and is also mentoring several other participants. So she is fundraising again. She is an awesome woman.
Date: 29/09/07 I am usually up later than the rest of my family. Tonight is no exception. Emma the Labrador hangs out with me until we go to bed.
