I am 35 years old and I live in Santa Barbara, California with my wife Nichol and our boys Spencer and Tristan. I am a real estate developer, and I have been working in urban land use planning and real estate development in one capacity or another since 1992. One of the most critical parts of my job is to develop and deliver presentations to Planning Commissions, City Councils, and community groups. I usually went out to get the photographs we needed for presentations myself, and after a while, I realized that I actually enjoyed photography itself. So I took some adult education classes offered by Santa Barbara City College, and started to read books about photographic techniques in order to improve my skills.

I first started to make "artistic" images in 2003. Then, in late 2005, another Santa Barbara photographer told me what a photoblog was, and helped me to set one up. My photoblog was "launched" in October of 2005, and except for a few short breaks, I have continued to post new material consistently. My primary goals for setting up a photoblog were to motivate me to go out and make more images, and to be able to share them with people. It has been a great experience and allowed me to develop a worldwide "audience" for my work. This has also resulted in my meeting a number of excellent photographers who I now consider friends. I have also had the pleasure of meeting several of these photographers in person. This year, I also began to publicly exhibit prints of my work. It has been a great experience, and I look forward to doing a lot more of this.

All of my images to date have been made using Nikon digital SLR cameras. However, I prefer to make the images in-camera, instead of doing any extensive post processing to generate my final work. I am really not very good at Photoshop.

My work can be seen at -

A regular sight in our home at night. She is probably looking to see if she has gotten any new donations for her current Team In Training fundraising effort. She is running a marathon on June 3rd in San Diego, and she raised nearly $5,000.00 US for cancer research for this. She signed up again for another marathon this fall, and is also mentoring several other participants. So she is fundraising again. She is an awesome woman.

She is a great dog. We adopted her from a breeder last fall. Good breeders like to retire their females after two or three litters of pups. Emma has had three litters of puppies, and their owners send photos of the pups to the breeder all the time, and she forwards these to us.

We have an unbelievably pleasant climate here in Santa Barbara, so, like many other structures in town, my office does not have air-conditioning. I leave my window open all day as a result. This guy sits down there on State Street outside my open window, and plays the same four songs all day, starting around 9:30 in the morning and continuing until I leave work around 6:30 in the evening. The four song repertoire is OK if you are a pedestrian walking by and listening to it for 30 seconds. Listening to this rotation for nine hours, every day, is another story.
