I'm a full-time art director in the advertising industry, but I devote whatever spare time is left over in my busy life to my obsession with photography.
I first dabbled in photography at the Ontario College of Art, Toronto, while studying fine arts over 16 years ago. But my cameras were put aside until the arrival of her daughter four years ago. While on maternity leave I felt a need to express myself creatively in ways other than motherhood, and have been shooting prolifically ever since.
Rather than make the switch to digital photography, I chose to focus on using and abusing an assortment of film cameras. Starting with a medium format Yashica Mat purchased at a yard sale four years ago, my collection now consists of a number of toy, Polaroid, twin lens and 35mm cameras. The latest addition is a Contax T3, which she states has a “lens to die for”. For this project, I made the exception, and charged up my digital Canon XT.
My strong influences are photographers; Loretta Lux, Stephen Shore and Gregory Crewdson.
